Industry Protests GAO Report on Skyrocketing Brand Drug Prices

Industry is taking issue with a new Government Accountability Office (GAO) report on skyrocketing brand drug prices, saying the report is too selective and focuses on a small subset of drugs. The report showed that 416 brand drug products had extraordinary price increases, generally ranging from 100 to 499 percent, from 2000 to 2008, the report says. The GAO notes the number of brand drug products with extraordinary price increases represents half of 1 percent of all brand drug products on the market.
