India Tightens Ethics Regulations for Devicemakers, Physicians
January 12, 2010
The Medical Council of India (MCI) has imposed strict new rules on the relationships between devicemakers and physicians that ban industry gifts.
In an amendment to the Indian Medical Council Regulations that took effect last month, the MCI also prohibits devicemakers from providing travel expenses
or paid vacations for physicians — even to industry seminars or conferences. Physicians will be able to participate in research funded by devicemakers,
but the funding must be transparent and distributed by MCI-approved institutions.
