Bigger Contribution to Healthcare Overhaul May Be Inevitable for PhRMA

PhRMA’s $80 billion deal with the White House to help finance healthcare overhaul legislation could potentially expand, and drugmakers may find it difficult to avoid paying a higher price, an expert says. PhRMA “essentially made a political decision at the beginning of this process that they were going to be on the inside at the table, and [the $80 billion deal] was their admission price,” Edmund Haislmaier, a senior research fellow at the Heritage Foundation, said Thursday. “Now they’re finding out … that the price just went up.”
