EU Patent Court System Steps Closer to Reality

The European Council has approved an outline for a streamlined EU patent system that would include a specialized court. The court system outlined by the council last month would allow device patent cases and appeals to be heard before judges with advanced legal and technical expertise in patents and eliminate the need to litigate parallel cases in different European countries. This streamlined system would save companies operating in Europe as much as $415 million each year, the European Commission estimates.
