HeartMate II Gets New Indication

The FDA has approved Thoratec’s HeartMate II for a new indication for severe heart failure patients who are not candidates for a transplant. The continuous flow, left ventricular assist device is already approved for patients awaiting further treatment, including transplants. Thoratec will conduct a postapproval study as a condition of approval, according to the FDA.
