Supercomputer With Model Simulations May Shorten Review Time for Devices

The FDA’s new supercomputer, scheduled to come online this summer, could shorten device approval times, prevent some recalls and reduce data requirements for certain devices. The high-performance computer is the final piece of a $2 million initiative that began with an internal competition in 2008 to improve the agency’s science and technology. Two smaller computer clusters are already online.
