Report: Health Reform to Cut Pharma Revenues by $112 Billion Over 10 Years

May 14, 2010
Drugmakers will experience a 4.3 percent, or $112 billion, decline in revenues over the next 10 years as provisions included in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act begin to take effect, according to a new PricewaterhouseCoopers report. While the expansion in coverage spurred by the law will increase the use of prescription drugs between 2010 and 2019, new rebates and fees will mitigate the profit pharmaceutical and biotech companies will glean from increased government spending. The impact will be felt especially hard by brand manufacturers that depend on government programs for a large percentage of their sales.
