GAO Looking Into Device Pricing
May 21, 2010
The Government Accountability Office (GAO) is investigating the pricing and use of implantable devices at the request of Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.). The review will assess trends in implantable device usage, look at what information is available on the prices hospitals pay for the devices and analyze how those prices affect overall Medicare spending, James Cosgrove, a director in GAO’s healthcare office, said. The study probably will take about nine months, he added.
