UK’s NICE Recommends First Device Under Its New Technology Pathway

The UK’s National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) has given a provisional nod to B. Braun Medical’s SeQuent Please balloon catheter for use in patients with in-stent restenosis in bare metal coronary artery stents, following the recommendation of the independent Medical Technologies Advisory Committee. The recommendation paves the way for National Health Service funding of SeQuent and gives devicemakers a preview of the agency’s cost-benefit review process.
