Cheap Counterfeit Tourniquets Enter Military Supply Chain

August 19, 2010
In search of a bargain, some military staffers may have bought into a supply of counterfeit combat application tourniquets, which are standard issue for all soldiers being deployed. However, the counterfeits could endanger injured soldiers’ lives as their components may break or bend before the necessary force can be applied to stop blood flow, the FDA said. The authentic tourniquets, manufactured by Composite Resources, cost $27.28 each. The counterfeit devices were manufactured in Hong Kong and sell for $8.50, according to the Defense Department.
