Number of DDMAC Enforcement Letters Surpasses 2009 Total

A streamlined process for issuing FDA enforcement action letters has resulted in an increase in the number of those letters for misleading marketing and promotion. Thomas Abrams, director of the FDA’s Division of Drug Marketing, Advertising and Communications (DDMAC), said the 45 warning letters sent in the first eight months of this year have already exceeded the 41 letters it sent in all of 2009. And that was nearly double the 21 letters sent in 2008.
