Grassley: More Government Oversight Needed to Prove the Value of GPOs

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) is pressuring Congress to increase government oversight of group purchasing organizations (GPOs), which, through their purchasing contracts, control devicemaker access to their member hospitals. Congress should consider legislation to provide HHS’s Office of Inspector General (OIG) with greater oversight authority of GPOs, Grassley, ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee, says in a minority staff report released last week.
