Medtronic Gets Approval for Talent Captiva System

November 1, 2010
Medtronic has received FDA approval for its Talent Captiva system, a device used in endovascular repair of thoracic aortic aneurysms (TAAs). The Talent Captiva is inserted through the femoral artery and moved up through the patient’s blood vessels. A stent graft can then be expanded within the aorta, increasing blood flow and reducing the chance of rupture, the company says. TAAs are bulges in the aorta that may rupture, possibly resulting in death, if left untreated. About 60,000 people in the U.S. have a TAA, although only half are diagnosed, Medtronic says.
