Medtronic Recalls Tissue Stabilizers for Fracturing

November 2, 2010
Medtronic has issued a recall for its Octopus Nuvo Tissue Stabilizer after two units fractured during use. Fracturing devices could result in fragments of the product falling into a patient’s chest cavity, potentially damaging heart tissue and requiring surgical retrieval. The company is asking healthcare providers to discontinue use and return all unused units. Patients already treated with the device should not require any action, as adverse events would have occurred during surgery, Medtronic says.
