BioMerieux Recalls Vitek 2 Cards

BioMerieux is recalling its VITEK 2 Gram negative susceptibility cards containing the drug piperacillin/tazobactam after learning the cards reported incorrect test results for susceptibility of E. coli and K. pneumoniae to the drug. Incorrect test results could cause patients to be inappropriately treated with the drug, possibly resulting in injury or death. The FDA considers the recall a Class I.
