Edwards: Sapien Valve Improves Quality of Life

November 16, 2010
Edwards Lifesciences has released data demonstrating that patients treated with the company’s Sapien transcatheter heart valve experienced “substantially better quality of life.” The data, obtained from the company’s PARTNER trial, is based on a series of surveys used to collect information about symptoms, physical and social limitation, and heart-failure related quality of life. Patients treated with the Sapien valve indicated they experienced a 25-point improvement in quality of life compared with the control group, the company says. A 20-point improvement on a 0-to-100 scale is considered substantial.
