Pfizer Sues Generic-Drug Makers Over Generic Viagra Applications

November 22, 2010
Pfizer has filed a patent-infringement lawsuit against several drugmakers seeking to market generic versions of Viagra. The suit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, accuses generic-drug makers Actavis, Amneal Pharmaceuticals, Apotex and Mylan of violating Pfizer’s ’012 patent on Viagra (sildenafil citrate) by filing ANDAs for generic versions of the blockbuster drug. Pfizer is asking the court for an injunction preventing the companies from selling their generic versions of the drug until the ’012 patent expires in October 2019, as well as a judgment saying the manufacture and sale of the drug would infringe that patent.
