Devicemakers Should Add URLs to Electronic Labels, Guidance Says

November 26, 2010
Devicemakers should include their internet uniform resource locator (URL), when feasible, on their electronic product labels, according to a new guidance from the FDA.

Device companies have been required for some time to include their full name, site, month and year of manufacture on their electronic product identification tags or labels. “FDA’s decision to encourage the addition of URLs on electronic products is a result of the recognition that URLs are now widely used in product identification,” the agency says.

Using a website address enables a manufacturer to provide its location and details that would not typically be included in a product tag or label, the FDA says.
