St. Jude: Neurostimulation Relieves Chronic Low Back Pain

December 3, 2010
St. Jude Medical has released data from a two-year study evaluating the effectiveness of an implantable neurostimulation device in relieving chronic low back pain. Seventy percent of the 130 subjects reported pain relief of 50 percent or better, and 88 percent reported their quality of life was improved or greatly improved, the company says. Neurostimulation devices create mild electrical pulses that mask or disrupt pain signals traveling to the brain.
