Nanomaterials Still Undefined by EU Experts, Delaying Regulations

Before drugmakers can expect guidance on nanotechnology, EU regulators must first decide what a nanomaterial is. In grappling with the issue, the European Commission’s Scientific Committee on Emerging and Newly Identified Health Risks (SCENIHR) acknowledges the complexity and uncertainties involved in trying to come up with a one-size-fits-all definition. While size is critical to the definition, determining what that size should be and measuring it are challenges that must be addressed, according to a SCENIHR opinion.
