Obama Submits $4.4 Billion FDA Budget Request

February 15, 2011
President Barack Obama is requesting a $4.4 billion budget for the FDA for fiscal 2012, a 33 percent increase over the agency’s fiscal 2010 budget. The FDA is now being funded on a continuing resolution that expires in early March. H.R. 1, the continuing resolution proposed Friday, would provide the FDA with $3.3 billion in funding for the remainder of fiscal 2011. Including money already received by the agency this fiscal year, that funding would amount to $220 million in cuts to the agency — a drop that experts have predicted could lead to layoffs and limited hiring by the FDA in the future
