NHS Reforms Mean More Competition Between Public and Private Providers

February 22, 2011
The UK’s healthcare industry is concerned that proposed National Health Service (NHS) reforms will damage healthcare quality through increased competition between private and public providers. Health Secretary Andrew Lansley has proposed reforms through two documents, the Health and Social Care Bill and the Operating Framework for the NHS in England 2011/12. In response, industry says the provisions introduce privatization into the country’s healthcare system, which will lead to diminished quality in services for patients.
