Limited Resources, Authority Hinder CDRH Promo Control

As the FDA’s drug and biologics centers ramp up their regulation of social media promotion, CDRH’s advertising and promotion policy group is, for the most part, continuing to focus on more traditional advertisement venues. “There are only three of us … we don’t have the resources to follow it,” FDA Regulatory Counsel Deborah Wolf said Feb. 23 at the Drug Information Association Marketing Workshop in Washington, D.C. While there are talks to expand CDRH’s promotional group, uncertainty over the agency’s budget and higher priority placed on ensuring adequate inspection staff have left the issue on the back burner.
