Hamburg Gives FDA’s Final Pitch to Industry for Generic User Fees

FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg delivered a strong call for generic user fees to drugmakers on Feb. 18, telling industry officials that the forthcoming talks on the subject are “a critical moment in our relationship.” In a speech that mixed the stern tone taken by agency officials in recent weeks with a more inclusive call to find common ground, Hamburg told drugmakers at the Generic Pharmaceutical Association annual meeting in Orlando that the FDA sees the user fees as essential for both sides.
