Throwing Out Money (World of DTC Marketing Blog)
A recent report pegs $3.1 billion as a figure the pharma industry spent in advertising the first three quarters of the year, an increase of 3 percent, blogger Richard Meyer writes. “It is troublesome that so many drug marketers continue to spend money on TV at a time when more people are time shifting TV programs and not paying attention to any TV ads for Rx drugs,” he writes. The blogger believes there are a number of reasons for the lack of innovative DTC online marketing, but really pinpoints it to two big reasons: lack of experience and lack of FDA guidance. “While drug companies like Sanofi are using social media to reach consumers and patients others seem content to sit on the sidelines and wait for the FDA to issue guidelines that are sure to be outdated,” Meyer writes.
