OIG Rejects FDA Argument in Email Monitoring Flap: Grassley Aide

After consulting with Justice Department prosecutors, the HHS Office of Inspector General (OIG) has found nothing to substantiate the FDA’s claim that it began monitoring nine employees’ emails only after hearing that confidential industry information had been leaked to the public, congressional aides said. OIG staff revealed their findings at a recent meeting with Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), and this explains why OIG has not prosecuted the “FDA Nine” employees who voiced product safety concerns to Congress, a Grassley aide said Tuesday.
