Obama Asks for Flat FDA Budget With Addition of Larger China Office

Nearly all of the slight increase in funding President Barack Obama is requesting for the FDA in his fiscal 2013 budget would pay for additional China-based inspectors and greatly enhance agency presence in the country to protect the supply chain. The agency’s fiscal 2013 budget request, released Feb. 13, remains essentially unchanged from fiscal 2012, at $2.5 million — a move that “concerns” FDA advocates and stakeholders.
