Drugmaker Vigilance Needed on Glass as USP Updates Vial Standards

Drug manufacturers should take steps now to ensure the quality of suppliers’ glass vials and prevent contamination as they wait for a badly needed revision to U.S. Pharmacopeia (USP) glass standards, a drugmaker says. The USP will propose a general chapter on glass durability in the May-June issue of Pharmacopeial Forum, spokeswoman Laura Provan told DGR last month. Until late last year, the organization hadn’t examined its standards since the 1970s.
