East African Nations to Harmonize Drug Registration Processes

May 3, 2012
Members of the East African Community (EAC) and public and private international aid organizations March 30 launched an initiative to promote harmonization of drug registration in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi. The effort is seen as a key factor in removing barriers to safe and effective drugs in the region. The EAC Medicines Registration Harmonization project was conceived by the African Medicines Regulatory Harmonization Programme, whose partners include the African Union’s New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), World Health Organization, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, World Bank, UK Department of International Development and Clinton Health Access Initiative.
