Drugmakers’ Shortage-Prevention Steps Are Working, Hamburg Says

The FDA has seen a dramatic uptick in early shortage notifications from drugmakers, and a drop in the number of drug shortages, in the six months since President Barack Obama ordered the agency to require more action from industry. Manufacturers have reported 42 new drug shortages so far this year, down from 90 at this time in 2011, FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg blogged Thursday.
