Panel Urges EU to Adopt More SME-Friendly Device Regulations, Payment Policies

A panel of European medtech experts is calling for simplified, more efficient reimbursement policies and purchasing procedures to reduce barriers to speed access to novel devices developed by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). An SME-friendly regulatory environment — with dedicated funding for breakthrough technologies — could help the more than 7,000 device SMEs struggling to bring their innovations to the EU market, the panel said. They suggested the EU conduct a survey to identify current shortcomings to SME market access and health technology assessments.
