Wakefield Can’t Sue BMJ For Calling Him Fraudulent (Pharmalot blog)
“In a postscript to the debate over autism and measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccines, a Texas judge ruled that controversial researcher Andrew Wakefield cannot sue BMJ [British Medical Journal] and one of its editors for claiming that his work was fraudulent,” blogger Ed Silverman writes. Last year, BMJ published a lengthy, behind-the-scenes look at how Wakefield cobbled together various conclusions and opinions that suggested a strong link between autism and MMR vaccination. In an accompanying editorial, BMJ called his work fraud and damaging to public health. “Travis County District Judge Amy Clark Meachum tossed the case after ruling that Texas courts lack jurisdiction over the parties sued by Wakefield, who now lives in Texas,” Silverman adds.
