China Crackdown Nets $180 Million in Fake Drugs

August 10, 2012
In what may prove to be the final leg of China’s four-month crackdown on fake drugs, Chinese police in 31 provinces have seized more than $180 million worth of counterfeits and arrested about 1,900 people related to counterfeit production, according to China’s Ministry of Public Security. The ministry aims to destroy the networks manufacturing fake drugs and sever their regenerative capacity. Fake drug trademark logos, packages and instruction manuals were also seized in the crackdown. But the ministry noted that it’s far from eradicating counterfeiting from China and that counterfeiters are becoming craftier and more prevalent.
