Medtech Groups Urge Sunshine Rule Release: Letter Asks for 180 Days to Comply with Rule

August 28, 2012
Medical technology trade groups are pressuring the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to immediately release the nearly year-late Physician Payment Sunshine Act final rule, but want the agency to hold off on collecting data on manufacturer and group purchasing organization payments to doctors until 180 days after the rule’s debut.
Companies need this time to implement systems changes and conduct tests and training, AdvaMed said in a letter to the agency that was co-signed by other industry groups. As of now, CMS plans to begin requiring data on devicemakers’ and group purchasing organizations’ payments to doctors and hospitals in January 2013.
