Zimmer Halves Device Tax Payment Estimate in 3Q Earnings Call

Zimmer may pay less next year to comply with the medical device excise tax than previously anticipated, Chief Financial Officer James Crines told investors in an Oct. 25 third quarter earnings call. Industry groups have painted the 2.3 percent tax, which was mandated in the 2010 Affordable Care Act, as a major threat to staffing, expansion and research and development budgets.
