Russian Industry Protests Budget Cuts

January 17, 2013
Russia’s medical device industry group, the International Medical Device Manufacturers Association, is taking issue with proposed cutbacks in the country’s device budget, saying it could prevent the use of some devices. Among other things, the budget would eliminate payments for needles and syringes for diabetics, which IMEDA said will force patients to purchase low-quality devices or reuse disposable needles. IMEDA Executive Director Alexander Tretyakov has called for more transparency in the budget process, warning that the proposed cuts would put thousands of Russians at risk.
