Canada Spends Less on Medical Devices Than Other Developed Countries

Medical devices place a smaller burden on healthcare costs and are more affordable relative to gross domestic product in Canada compared with most other countries, according to a new study of device spending in 66 countries. The study by Canadian Health Policy Institute (CHPI) found that, averaged between 2006 and 2011, Canada ranked 56 out of 66 countries when measuring device spending per capita as a percentage of total per capita health spending.
