Heart Transplant Could Get a Second Chance to Save Life

A research team at the University of Sunderland in the UK has developed circulatory equipment to pump warm, oxygenated blood into pigs’ hearts that have been stopped for several hours. They then used defibrillators to shock those hearts into beating once again. This, they hope, will lead to the same technology used on human hearts, potentially revolutionizing the arena of heart and heart valve transplants.
