Experimental Device Helps Surgeons Ensure They Have Removed All Cancerous Tissue

Often, surgeons cut through human tissues with a heated knife and send samples to a lab for analysis during surgery. Zoltan Takats of Imperial College London has created a new type of knife with this in mind. His knife links to a spectrometry device and analyzes the smoke released from the tissue, eliminating the need for samples to be analyzed elsewhere.
