Device Tax Repeal Could Be Key Bargaining Chip in Shutdown Talks

Senate Democrats could be swayed to include repeal of the 2.3 percent medical device excise tax in negotiations to end the partial government shutdown if the repeal measure replaces the lost revenue, a high-ranking majority member says. Speaking on CNN Tuesday, Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said, “We could work out something, I believe, on the medical device tax, as long as we replace the revenue.”
