FDA Recommends Up-Scheduling Hydrocodone Combo Products to Thwart Abuse

In a long-awaited decision, CDER Director Janet Woodcock Thursday said the FDA will soon recommend to HHS that the prescription painkiller hydrocodone be reclassified to more a restrictive schedule — Schedule II. The agency will continue working with professional organizations, consumer and patient groups, and industry to ensure the restriction doesn’t impede access to the drugs for those patients who use them appropriately, she added in a web post.
