Health Minister: Ontario Taking Action to Strengthen Diagnostic Imaging

December 13, 2013

Ontario’s health ministry is working with Health Quality Ontario to implement a province-wide physician peer review program for all diagnostic imaging facilities, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care Deb Matthews said earlier this month.

The initiative is part of a broader health ministry initiative to improve the quality of diagnostic imaging services, including mammograms and CT scans. In September, Matthews convened a working group to draw up recommendations for enhancing quality assurance in diagnostic imaging.

In her statement, Matthews thanked Trillium Health Partners for conducting a high-level review of CT scans and mammograms and for concocting a plan for a peer review program. The province is also considering an accreditation program, Matthews said.—Lena Freund
