AdvaMed, Brazilian Counterparts Sign Ethical Practices MOU

February 28, 2014

Device industry association AdvaMed said Thursday it has signed a memorandum of understanding with three Brazilian medtech groups to harmonize and promote ethical business practices among devicemakers, distributors and health practitioners in the Latin American country.

“The signing of this MOU shows our industry’s unwavering commitment to develop a cohesive international approach to interactions between medical technology companies and healthcare providers, premised on the highest ethical standards,” AdvaMed President and CEO Stephen Ubl said.

In addition to encouraging ethical practices, the MOU provides for joint compliance training, joint educational programs, sharing of best practices, the regular exchange of information, open dialogue, information dissemination, and implementation and compliance.

Signing the MOU with AdvaMed were device manufacturers association ABIMED, importers and distributors group ABRAIDI and CBDL, which represents in vitro diagnostic manufacturers. The MOU comes as Brazil is launching the 2013 “Clean Company” antibribery law. — Meg Bryant
