Singapore’s Health Sciences Authority Announces New CEO

May 1, 2014

The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) of Singapore said Wednesday that Mimi Choong May Ling has been appointed CEO of the agency, which regulates drug products in the small Southeast Asian country. She will assume the role July 1, and will take over from John Lim Chien Wei, who is returning to the country’s Ministry of Health as deputy director of medical services and is heading a new initiative to promote regulatory excellence at the Duke-National University of Singapore Graduate Medical School.

Choong now serves as deputy secretary in the Ministry of Education. In this position, she has played a key role in talent development, financial resource management, and transformation of customer service, HSA said. Prior to that position, Choong was deputy secretary of security in the Ministry of Home Affairs. She also has held positions in other Ministries, such as Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

Choong graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the National University of Singapore. She was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 2004 and the Public Administration Medal (Gold) in 2010. — Neal Learner
