FDA Green Lights Marketing of Inogen’s At-Home Oxygen Concentrator

June 24, 2014

Goleta, Calif., devicemaker Inogen said Tuesday that will launch the Inogen At Home nightly-use oxygen concentrator later this year, following the receipt of FDA 510(k) clearance.

Weighing in at 18 pounds, the Inogen At Home is expected to be the lightest 5 liter per minute continuous flow oxygen concentrator on the market, the company says, adding that current oxygen concentrators with similar flow capacity can weigh 10 to 20 pounds more.

Inogen claims the device is the most energy-efficient of its kind, helping to reduce electrical costs for at-home oxygen therapy. The reduced the size and lower noise level also set Inogen At Home apart from competitors’ models, the company says.

Patients who would benefit from the device include nocturnal use-only oxygen therapy patients who do not yet need a portable concentrator — roughly 30 percent of the total oxygen patients in the U.S., Inogen says. — Kellen Owings
