Exactech’s Optetrak Logic Porous Coating Launches Internationally
Exactech, a bone and joint restoration product manufacturer, said Wednesday it has launched the Optetrak Logic Porous implant coating for total knee replacement in global markets.
Logic Porous offers knee surgeons a coating that balances material strength, pore size and posterity, the Gainesville, Fla. company said. The coating’s unique structural lattice is comprised of layers of irregular-shaped beads, which increases average pore size and delivers greater sponginess than traditional round beads.
The company tested the coating in a University of New South Wales animal study, comparing it with traditional porous-beaded coating. After 12 weeks of implantation, Logic Porous showed greater shear strength and higher total bone in-growth rates at the cortical interface, along with higher overall bone in-growth rates at the cancellous interface, versus the control, the devicemaker said.
Full market availability will continue throughout 2014. — Kellen Owings
