SunTech Medical Acquires Centron Diagnostics’ Blood Pressure Assets

July 30, 2014

SunTech Medical has snapped up King’s College of London’s central blood pressure technology, as well as the assets of its spin-off, Centron Diagnostics, the company said Tuesday. The acquisition includes the cBP301 Central Blood Pressure Monitor, the world’s first arm cuff monitor, which was released in 2011.

The Morrisville, N.C., company, which focuses on blood pressure management solutions, did not disclose the terms of the deal or any product development plans.

Central blood pressure and brachial blood pressure readings can differ significantly and respond differently to pharmacologic treatments, SunTech said, adding that CBP may be more relevant in predicting cardiovascular events or organ damage.

SunTech recently partnered with Australian devicemaker AtCorMedical to develop the Oscar 2, a blood pressure monitor that measures CBP and other pulse wave analysis metrics over a 24-hour period. The King’s College acquisition will not affect that agreement, SunTech said. — Kellen Owings
