3D Systems Snaps Up Simbionix for $120 Million

August 1, 2014

3D Systems has acquired 3D virtual reality surgical simulation and training company Simbionix for $120 million in cash.

According to Rock Hill, S.C.-based 3DS, the purchase complements its three-dimensional healthcare offerings by providing the ability to train and simulate over 60 interventional procedures across eight specialties and 16 simulation platforms. 3DS’ portfolio consists of virtual surgical planning and 3D-printed medical modeling and devices.

“Simbionix is a perfect match for our healthcare business, and its powerful technology, products, channels and domain expertise expands our 3D healthcare capabilities from the training room to the operating room,” said 3DS President and CEO Avi Reichental.
The deal is expected to close in the next 30 days.
