Accellent to Close Colorado Facility, Combine Irish Plants

September 11, 2014

Wilmington, Mass., devicemaker Accellent said Wednesday it will be closing its Arvada, Colo., facility and combining its two Galway, Ireland, sites. The move is part of a larger manufacturing strategy tied to Accellent’s March acquisition of Lake Region Medical.

As part of that strategy, Accellent will rebrand itself as Lake Region Medical later this quarter.

Manufacturing at the Arvada facility will cease by early to mid-2016, said Accellent Chairman and CEO Don Spence. Products currently made there will be divvied up among the 15 worldwide facilities the new Lake Region Medical will continue to operate.

About 200 jobs will be lost with the Arvada closure, Accellent acknowledged. The company expects the majority of employees at the two Galway sites to remain following the consolidation. The move is expected to improve quality, delivery and cost competitiveness along with supporting innovation, Spence said. — Kellen Owings
