Aerocrine, Microsoft Team Up to Test Cloud-Based Medical Device Monitoring

Swedish devicemaker Aerocrine is collaborating with Microsoft to use the latter’s secure cloud services to transmit data from its asthma treatment devices to Aerocrine for analysis. The goal is improve customer service and sales support.

The companies will test the concept this fall, collecting data from Aerocrine devices deployed in Sweden, the UK and the U.S. Microsoft will connect the devices to its secure cloud analytics platform, Microsoft Azure, to demonstrate the secure and accurate transmission of telemetry data, Aerocrine said.

Aerocrine’s line of Niox brand devices are used by physicians to measure fractional exhaled nitric oxide, a biomarker for allergic airway inflammation, which is linked with asthma. The devices help physicians determine proper dosage of medication and better monitor patient progress, the company said.

Aerocrine CEO Scott Myers said the ability to collect data on device performance in real-time will allow the company to be “more proactive in our customer support and ensure that our devices help the physicians deliver the best possible outcome for the patient. — Kellen Owings
